If brothas are "angry" ... then ... what are we truly angry at? This post is about Thug Kulture and it's effect on HiV/AIDS.
I've LONG questioned the hyper-masculinity of Thug Culture. It looks sooo fake ... like they're covering up something. Recently my niece sent me an article about the alarming rate of new HIV/AIDS cases in black women in the Washington DC area. It makes me worry.... both about black women AND about all those so-called "playas" that must also be infected. Questions:
1.) Are our most "Alfa" males running around infected?
2.) And these Thugs ... "niggas" afraid to go at legitimate jobs. Evil always looks for weakness ... so they rarely point their guns at the mainstream communities ... just "in da hood." So ... what's the HiV/AIDS connection?
3.) Is much of all this Thug violence just about shame ... vain attempts to hide the fact that they've betrayed themselves ... that they've developed a "taste" for man-flesh that they're trying to over compensate and hide??
Well ... the truth finally coming to light. If you have guys who insist on going in and out of juvenile Hall ... and graduate to prison ... who are "in it for life" ... and all this is occuring during their peak child bearing years ... when their hormones are ... um ... sending them the message to have sex more often that at any point in life ... and they're in jail ... well ... it stands to reason that when you add drugs and alcohol ... SOMETHING is going to happen! (Drug use is also HUGE inside prison.)
It's also coming to light that the gangs are no longer beating new members in with their fists. Now they are fucking them in ... the same way they used to do the girls. Yep ... they are fucking the BOYS into the gang. Okay Macho Mens!
So ... to all you beautiful young sistas who just insist that you have to have a "ruff neck" in Timberlands ... please think about your own self-esteem ... and your self-worth.
I'm an old brother now and I see plenty of lovely older sisters who are bitter and traumatized due to the fools they hooked up with earlier in life. Sexual addiction is huge. Porn is the largest money maker on the internet. But Transpersonal Psychology says that addiction of any kind is, "a spiritual emergency." That means not only drugs ... booze ... but also sex (anything that changes mind/mood states) and food. (Sugar is ultra HUGE ... a national addiction that the corporations are pushing HARD at all of us ... just look at us!! Consider the spike in sugar diabetes...)
In short, this is a dilemma of our own making. Whenever we take an easier, softer way out ... same sex instead of working with the fears of creating healthy heterosexual relationships ... then our demons destroy us.
Whenever we select "consumer" relationships (relationships built on money ... or "what's in it for me?") instead of deciding on WORKING with a person of similar values and building a life with them ... then our demons destroy us.
All these beautiful black men and women dying early ... why????
Am I just old? I know there's a lot of young fools out there... that it too often takes a longer time for males to mature into men (on average) that it takes for women .... but now the "Satans" in our world have gotten to the women too ... now even mothers are deserting and abusing their kids .... "Girls Gone Wild" ... So HoW we going to make it with Thug values???
How many still think that money makes you happy and that it doesn't make any difference how you get that money?

I wish i could love and be loved by our black men. but i find they spend more time trying to bring me down that trying to be the man i need. i hate that. The thug culture has done nothing for us but make our live even more desparate. one of the worst things to happen to the black race/family was sexism. this hatred of women. don't you see it ?
This is what i see here in dallas texas. why do black me act like we(black women) are pond scum i will never understand. we have loved and supported black men thru the centuries and now in 2008 we are the scum of the earth. that is so sad to me. so sad.

Not lesbian women, but heterosexual (I suppose) men.
The higher rates of infection among women largely come from the higher risk of injury during sexual activity for women, especially in the practice you hinted at.
Who insists on this practice, and on unprotected sex? Mostly the males.
Who thinks it manly to see prostitutes, do drugs? Mostly the males.
I can only fully agree to what you said on "over-heightened" masculinity.
It is disgusting, disrespectful, life-threatening (with both weapons and HIV) to everybody in the community you are talking about, and, yes, quite a bit ridiculous if I may say that as a woman who considers herself valuing herself and having self-esteem.
I do not live in the US community you are referring to, but I have seen developments I consider similar in Maghrebine ghettos in French cities, I lived in Paris.
I actually think the situation might be worse - "bad" girls (the ones who had a boyfriend) are gang-raped (the term is "tournante", it is passing on marihuana cigarettes normally - same term used by these misogynist guys for passing on a girl - against her will), non-complying girls have been killed. Sohane was a shock case for the French public - she was burned alive by a guy who considered her a "whore" (coz she had rejected him - ya I know there s nothing to understand in this ridiculous and sad contradiction).

If you react to their conversations (which often happens out of fear - rejection can be taken badly by them) - you re a ho. You dont react - you re an arrogant ho who thinks she s better. And you have to be afraid of their reaction see above.
So this was just to tell you my experience with "thug culture" as somone who s not dark skinned nor US American..
This is a huge topic. You mentioned pornography consumption, disrespect for the women of their own community.. We all know language creates reality and shapes it. I mean think of the disrespect in language "bitch", "ho" etc.

As for it being "queer": I do not think queer/gay belongs here. Men "doing" other men are not necessarily gay.
Actually, in Arab history it is well known and documented Arab armies raped the enemies they had defeated - I mean not the women, but the enemy soldiers on the battlefield. The "active" one was not considered "gay", but especially virile.
I think it is the top of the machismo/heightened masculinity craze and mania - male domination - rather than anything queer.
I think the most important step is men daring to speak out against their brothers behaving in this way - after all, it s still in most communities that men's word is given a particular weight.
AND THE WOMEN: they could change so much by NOT being with such a guy. Which guy would want to be a thug if it were completely unattractive to the girls?! BOYCOT them :)
I think this would be a matter of self respect as you said. Do not trick yourself being with someone who just disrespects and degrades you does not do you harm girls..
